Job Description

The student will participate in an eleven-week internship program during Summer 2025 with the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at the Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) in Albuquerque, NM. Travel support will be provided to assist students with travel to/from Albuquerque, NM.

One goal of this program is to expose Georgia Tech (GT) undergraduates and graduate students to research aligned with SNL and CINT mission space and to conduct research under the supervision and mentoring of CINT scientists.

There are multiple outcomes that will stem from this program (i) enhance and develop new research collaborations between GT faculty and CINT scientist; (ii) develop a future workforce with relevant expertise to SNL mission space; (iii) retain undergraduates population at GT as graduate students; (iv) expand CINT user base.

There are several research project scopes for the interns as defined jointly by GT faculty and CINT scientists, and to be aligned with four existing research thrusts at CINT.

The four GT students will work on a variety of Laboratory Direct Research and Development (LDRD) projects with CINT scientists. Depending on the project assignment and student qualifications, the intern will be responsible for setting up and running lab experiments, creating software programs to analyze data, or developing computational models and algorithms.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree at Georgia Tech in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related
  • 2.0 or higher GPA
  • Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit
Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in 1 or more programming languages
* Task/team leadership experience
* Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
* Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance
