Department Information

The seventh college at Georgia Tech and the first to be established in over thirty years, the College of Lifetime Learning aims to advance the academic study of learning and revolutionize how individuals and organizations understand and practice learning across all levels and ages. The college comprises 25 academic faculty and 20 research faculty who lead a rigorous research agenda. This position will collaborate closely with faculty to develop and submit competitive proposals.

Job Summary

Serve as a unit level team leader, expert advisor, and consultant within a college, an academic unit, a research unit, or a business unit on matters related to sponsored research program administration in accordance with Institute and sponsor policies. Provide pre-award and post-award funds management for sponsored research programs. Advise department financial staff and investigators on issues related post-award grant management. Provide advanced financial record management, reporting, accounting, and reconciliation. Provide leadership, coaching, and / or mentoring to other grant administration, finance, or accounting personnel. This position will interact on a regular basis with : principal and co- investigators, unit management, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and external sponsors. This position typically will advise and counsel : unit financial or accounting staff, faculty, staff, and students. This position will supervise : N / A.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Identify funding sources and administer grant budgets. Advise faculty on budget development, financial scenario and strategic planning, and financial forecasting in response to grant solicitations and requests for proposals.

Job Duty 9 -

Research potential grants opportunities from agencies and philanthropic organizations.

Job Duty 10 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Job Duty 2 -

Edit and prepare proposal documentation, submit required documentation into sponsor systems, and appraise proposals for Office of Sponsored Programs review.

Job Duty 3 -

Liaise with management and staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs and the Office of Grants and Contracts Accounting regarding sponsored research grants and contracts.

Job Duty 4 -

Administer post-award activities including developing financial reports, negotiating and maintaining sub-agreements, monitoring and reconciling expenditures and salary distribution, submitting budget revisions, and auditing transactions for compliance with budget justification and sponsor policies.

Job Duty 5 -

Generate custom and required reports for faculty and unit management regarding sponsored research plans, proposals, and projects.

Job Duty 6 -

Collaborate, provide advice, and give direction to unit financial or accounting personnel regarding the pre-award and post-award process, as appropriate.

Job Duty 7 -

Provide assistance to students, post-doctoral fellows, and research faculty on assistantships and fellowships.

Job Duty 8 -

Identify and provide sponsored research training and educational opportunities for faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Eight to ten years of job related experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, including proposal preparation, budget development, and compliance with NSF guidelines.

Assisting faculty and staff in the development of budgets and budget justification for proposal preparation which includes proofing the budget for inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy.

Monitoring and facilitating the routing of grant proposals in compliance with university procedures and institutional signatures.

Knowledge of Research.gov

Knowledge of Cayuse (cloud-based research administration software)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires advanced knowledge of and expertise in the pre-award and post-award sponsored research and grant administration process. Ability to interpret and explain complex regulations, policies, and government language is essential. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required to interact with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse academic and research community. Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize while performing multiple, complex financial tasks is required. Advanced knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices in an academic and research institution.
