About the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology

Graduate degree programs include: MS and PhD in Biology, MS and PhD in Bioinformatics, MS and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering as well as PhD in Quantitative Biosciences, Ocean Sciences and Engineering, and Dual Doctor of Physical Therapy/ Doctor of Philosophy. Undergraduate degree programs include 4 year BS and 5 year BS/MS programs in Biology and Bioinformatics. Research strengths include: Molecular and Cellular Biology, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Microbial Dynamics and Infection, as well as Integrative Physiology, Evolution, and Ecology. The School is home to the two largest and most distinct undergraduate majors in the College of Sciences: Biology and Neuroscience. Faculty members in the School of Biological Sciences have the opportunity to work with students and faculty from across campus, including the Molecular Biomedical research community comprised by members labs from the schools of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

Job Summary

The School of Biological Sciences (biosci.gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Integrative Physiology. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. The position is open to research programs advancing the understanding of physiological processes and behavior at any level of organization, from whole organisms and ecological interactions down to systems and molecular levels. We are particularly interested in applicants exploring any combination of modeling, computational, and experimental approaches to address fundamental questions in physiology across scales with a focus on bridging interactions among function, behavior, and environment. We are also interested in candidates whose research synergizes with the school's existing strengths in sensorimotor neurophysiology, biomechanics, movement sciences, ecology, and comparative & evolutionary biology. The ideal candidate will be expected to successfully develop and teach fundamental courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and make positive contributions to the School, Institute, and community. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.

Responsibilities

Candidates are expected to conduct research, teaching and advising students and service activities. Successful candidate should be able to develop and sustain a competitive, externally funded research program in Integrative Physiology. The candidate will engage both with the core Biological Sciences program and have the opportunity to interact with the Applied Physiology graduate program (https://biosciences.gatech.edu/graduate/phd-applied-physiology), the interdisciplinary Quantitative Biosciences Graduate Program (https://qbios.gatech.edu/), a new interdisciplinary Neuroscience & Neurotechnology Ph.D. (https://neuro.gatech.edu), and other programs in the College of Sciences (https://cos.gatech.edu/graduate-programs) and engineering Institute-wide.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated research productivity in biological sciences or related fields.
  • Academic experience in biological sciences or related fields.
  • Clear evidence of effective teaching.

  • The ability to teach and mentor a distinct student body.
  • The ability to promote a welcoming educational/work environment.
  • The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.
  • The ability to adopt teaching strategies that support the learning and success of all students.
