About the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) is highly interdisciplinary and covers broadly all fields of Earth and space science. EAS hosts a range of undergraduate degrees, including B.S. programs in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS), Solid Earth and Planetary Sciences (SEP), and Environmental Science (ENVS), and hosts a distinct interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Ocean Science and Engineering in collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences and Environmental Engineering. Atlanta, GA
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for a Research Scientist II position in Earth Sciences and Geophysics, in the Samer Naif research group. The position will interact with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and contractors.
The successful candidate in this position will:
- Process and analyze recently acquired seafloor electromagnetic (EM) data for tectonophysics applications
- Provide logistical support for future seagoing EM surveys
- Pursue externally funded research opportunities in EM geophysics
- Publish research products in peer-reviewed journals
- Mentor and train undergraduate and/or graduate research assistants in the EM geophysics laboratory
- A Master's degree in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, or related area, and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master's degree in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, or related area, and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
- A Doctoral degree in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, or related area
Preferred qualifications are as follows:
- Experience performing marine electromagnetic surveys, including the collection of seafloor magnetotelluric and controlled-source electromagnetic datasets
- Demonstrated ability to secure external research grants in support of electromagnetic geophysics projects
- A record of peer-reviewed publications on relevant topics utilizing marine electromagnetic data for subseafloor imaging applications.
$70,000 - $75,000/annually
