Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Surgery Coder to join our growing urology private practice. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of coding for urological surgeries, with a strong focus on CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems. You will work closely with our medical staff to ensure accurate documentation and billing for surgical procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and optimal reimbursement for services rendered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surgical Coding: Accurately code urological surgical procedures using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.
- Documentation Review: Review patient charts, surgical notes, and physician documentation to ensure proper coding of procedures.
- Billing Support: Prepare the charges for accurate claim submittal ensuring compliance with all insurance payer guidelines and timely submission.
- Audit and Compliance: Participate in regular audits of coding and billing practices to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Claim Resolution: work with the A/R team to resolve coding issues, denials, & appeals related to surgical claims.
- Code Updates: Stay current with the latest coding changes, updates, and revisions, particularly in the field of urology.
- Collaboration: Work closely with urologists, office staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the accuracy of codes and the completeness of documentation.
- Reporting: Generate coding and billing reports for practice management and provide insights to optimize financial operations.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in medical coding, with at least 2 years in surgery coding, preferably in urology.
- Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required; additional certifications related to surgery coding (e.g., CCS-P) are a plus.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems as they pertain to urological surgery.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with medical billing and coding software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with physicians and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a private practice setting, particularly in urology or surgical specialties.
- Familiarity with payer-specific requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies.
- Experience with coding audits and compliance processes.
