What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Nurse position at Georgian Court University?
This staff nurse position provides health care and education to university students in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice. The Health Center hours are 8:30am – 4:30 pm Monday- Friday. Summer hours vary in accordance with the University’s schedule. Reports to the Director of Health and Counseling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide primary care for students for illnesses, injuries, and health concerns.
- Administer medications/vaccinations/treatments as outlined in Physician’s Standing Orders.
- Counsel students on health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
- Promote health maintenance and wellness through screenings and health awareness activities.
- Participate in outreach events, as indicated, including New Student Orientation and Open House events.
- Review immunization documentation requirements as established by the university in compliance with applicable laws.
- Maintain current stock of medications and medical supplies.
- Process medical records of incoming students.
- Maintain appropriate patient and Health Services records.
- Maintain current knowledge of campus and community resources for referral of students.
- Ensure maintenance of confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and relevant NJ laws.
- Assist in completion of annual report, assessment report, and yearly immunization compliance report, as assigned by Director.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current New Jersey RN license required.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
- Experience in several phases of nursing (such as medical/surgical, public health, emergency room, school health, and clinic practice.)
- Candidate should be self-motivated, organized, independent worker, skilled in communication and able to provide competent medical assistance in emergency situations.
