Position Overview
As a Jr. Audio-Visual Technician Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced AV technicians and engineers to support the setup, operation, and maintenance of AV systems at client sites. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience with AV infrastructure, structured cabling, signal flow, and troubleshooting — perfect for students interested in AV integration, IT, or computer related fields.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Setup & Operation: Assist in setting up AV systems including video walls, projectors, microphones, speakers, switchers, and control systems for live meetings, briefings, and training environments.
- Cabling Installation: Help run and terminate CAT6, HDMI, XLR, and speaker wire to AV endpoints, ensuring secure and organized installations.
- Rack Building: Learn to mount and wire AV components into equipment racks based on schematics, ensuring neat cable management and system access.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Support basic diagnostics of AV components and escalate complex issues to senior staff.
- Documentation: Maintain setup records, cable diagrams, and assist with inventory checklists and asset logs.
- Technical Assistance: Assist with firmware updates, AV control testing (Crestron, Biamp, Extron), and software configuration.
- Inventory Management: Help track deployment gear, test return equipment, and maintain readiness kits.
- Compliance & Safety: Follow all safety protocols and adhere to federal AV/IT installation standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Currently enrolled in or recently completed a technical degree or certification program in Information Technology, Audio Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field.
- Experience: 0–2 years of hands-on AV or IT experience. Familiarity with monitors, projectors, microphones, video switchers, DSPs, and cable pulling is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Able to lift 50 lbs., use ladders, and work in dynamic environments (indoor/outdoor).
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and eagerness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to AV brands and systems such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Shure, or similar.
Basic knowledge of AV troubleshooting, signal flow, or control systems. - Experience using tools like labelers, punch tools, cable testers, or wire strippers.
