Cost Accountant
GeoStructures, Inc. a growing, dedicated, service-oriented construction company in Purcellville, Virginia is seeking to hire an individual to provide support to the accounting department. The ideal candidate is efficient and comfortable being a member of a team, is resourceful, a problem solver, and organized.Job Duties:
- Full cycle Accounts Payable: receives, reviews, and verifies invoices.
- Routes invoices for approval and posts invoices in the system once approved.
- Calculates use tax on invoices when applicable.
- Prepares weekly vendor payment register for approval and prints checks.
- Records accrual journal entries and is familiar with and can record intercompany transactions.
- Works directly with project managers to ensure invoice coding is correct and all expenses have been recorded in the proper period.
- Maintains vendor ledgers in accounting software. Includes setting up new vendors, deactivating old vendors, updating vendors for address changes, and ensuring vendors have W-9’s and up-to-date certificates of insurance with proper coverage on file.
- Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions. Works directly with vendors to resolve any invoice discrepancies or issues.
- Assists with month-end close and provides supporting documentation for annual financial statements and worker’s compensation audits.
- Prepares and files monthly sales and use tax returns.
- Maintains and reconciles fixed asset roll forward schedules and posts depreciation into accounting software.
- Calculates and records project equipment usage.
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts.
- Reconciles bank statements for multiple accounts monthly.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or at least 4 years experience in job cost accounting required.
- Experience with Foundation Software (not required, but a plus).
- Proficient in Excel and Word.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to meet tight month-end deadlines.
Successful completion of an accounting skills assessment is required.
