BASIC FUNCTIONS:
- Provide immediate emergency care for traumatic and non-traumatic injured workers and contractors including coordinating and directing and setting up for or transporting offsite medical treatment for the injured workers as required.
- Coordinate and assist the Safety Adminsitrator in case management for all Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Work with the Safety Manager and Safety Specialists to develop preventative measures to reduce work place injuries.
- Conduct respirator fit tests, hearing tests, heavy metal blood draws, PFT tests, crane physicals, and vision tests.
- Maintain, sustain, and ensure compliance with select Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Midlothian Mill, and Gerdau Corporate Safety guidelines and standards.
- Standardize/develop Midlothian nursing, injury response, and Texas Workers Compensation practices and policies.
- Coordinate specialized occupational safety and health training and emergency drills for the Petersburg Mill.

Act as back up to the Safety Manager, EMT and Emergency Alert Team as needed.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The incumbent will hold a degree from an accredited nursing school, preferably a Bachelor of Nursing, and will have 3-5 years of Clinical Nursing experience. Occupational health and safety experience and OSHA training preferred. Prior experience with Texas Workers Compensation case management and claims management recommended. The incumbent must also have a current registered nursing license in the state of Texas.
The incumbent must have the ability to analyze and make sound judgements to accurately document and maintain appropriate confidentiality of medical records. Should have the ability to communicate effectively with employees, physicians/medical professionals, and other outside parties. Knowledge of state and federal laws related to Worker’s Compensation, and legislation regarding confidentiality. Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and at least an intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word PowerPoint, and Excel. The incumbent must have excellent written communication skills and will be expected to document decision, agreements, and orders made.This position is responsible for implementing and evaluating strategies to facilitate maximum medical improvement for employees to return to work when possible and then establishes case-specific target return-to-work dates. Participate in applicable safety meetings and investigations. Report and correct all unsafe conditions immediately. Participate in Safety Hour activities and corporate safety initiatives.
