TITLE: Assistant Athletic Coach (high school and middle school)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Nebraska teacher certification or Coaching Certificate
- Preferred employment as a teacher in School District
- Previous coaching experience in assigned sport preferred
- Has knowledge and background in the assigned sport
REPORTS TO: Head coach with Activity Director oversight
SUPERVISES: Athletes and team assigned. Assumes supervisory control over all athletes in program when such control is needed
JOB GOAL: To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach and school administration. To Instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learns and adheres to the coaching philosophy and program of the high school head coach.
- Assists in explaining and distributing literature to all athletes concerning the Athletic Commitment and the protecting of student eligibility.
- Teaches athletes the fundamental skills, theory, and strategy of the sport.
- Teaches the athletes the value of good conduct, sportsmanship, and good citizenship.
- Provides supervision of athletes at all times and applies discipline in a firm productive manner.
- Teaches and emphasizes safe procedures to the athletes.
- Assists the high school head coach with out-of-season training as needed.
- Attends the athletic awards program.
- Assists in the responsibility for care of equipment and facilities being used.
- Assists in the issuance, return, and maintenance of equipment.
- Assists in ensuring that all equipment is cleaned, repaired, and stored properly at the ends of the season.
- Makes recommendations to the high school head coach concerning needed equipment or repairs to facilities.
- Enforces all building and district regulations and policies.
- Has knowledge and keeps current on rules and regulations regarding your sport and in accordance with NSAA
- Keeps abreast of new knowledge and innovative ideas and techniques by attending clinics, workshops, or other methods.
- Assists high school head coach in registering and maintaining records on all athletes.
- Assists in providing information on game times, bus schedules, and practice times to parents and athletes.
- Conducts self as a personal example of positive demeanor for the athletes and represents the school in a favorable manner.
- Works cooperatively with the high school head coach on all endeavors related to assigned sport.
- Performs scouting duties for the varsity team per the high school head coach’s request.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
- Promotes a harassment-free environment.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork.
- Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position.
- Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked.
