Job Summary:
The Articulated Truck Operator is responsible for operating an articulated dump truck (ADT) to transport materials such as soil, gravel, sand, or debris on construction sites. This role requires skillful operation, adherence to safety standards, and coordination with other team members to ensure efficient and safe job site operations.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive and operate articulated dump trucks to transport materials.
Safely maneuver the truck across rugged or uneven terrain.
Ensure proper loading and unloading of materials at designated locations.
Perform pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections to ensure the truck is in safe working order.
Monitor fluid levels, tires, brakes, and other essential components.
Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to supervisors or mechanics.
Adhere to all relevant safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Operate the vehicle in a safe manner to avoid accidents or damage to property.
Maintain effective communication with supervisors, site managers, and other workers.
Secure loads before transport to prevent spillage.
Maintain a clean and tidy work area around the truck and on-site.
Work closely with other operators (e.g., loaders, excavators, bulldozers) to ensure smooth operation on the site.
Skills/Abilities:
A valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or specific vehicle operation certification preferred.
Additional certifications for operating heavy equipment may be required (e.g., OSHA certification, forklift operator certification).
Good verbal communication to coordinate with supervisors and co-workers.
Ability to identify and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues or operational problems.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
2-3 years of experience operating articulated dump trucks or similar heavy machinery preferred.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is typically conducted outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions and challenging terrain.
Prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
Must be able to access and navigate the facility.
Able to safely climb and descend ladders.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in operational areas.
The position will require work outside of normal business hours.
