Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

Germanna Community College is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Retention Coach to support the success and retention of students, with a special focus on international students, at Germanna Community College. This position is integral in providing academic guidance, addressing barriers to student success, and connecting students with institutional resources to enhance completion and retention outcomes. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality, student-centered service and ensure a seamless onboarding experience for international students through a holistic, case management approach. Collaboration with academic departments and student services is essential to effectively support prospective, new, and continuing students, including those in the international student population.
This position may require occasional travel between campuses and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for continuing international students needing support to persist through their academic journey.
  • Analyze student data and create strategies for intervention and success, using tools such as Salesforce or similar data tracking systems.
  • Assist with enrollment processes, including onboarding new students and providing guidance for academic advising reports.
  • Conduct outreach to students identified as at-risk based on institutional data, providing support tailored to their individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and case management activities.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, and other campus staff to support student retention initiatives.
  • Provide exceptional customer service in addressing student concerns, including enrollment, course registration, and other academic challenges.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and training sessions as required to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Support myCAA enrollment verification and similar processes as needed.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments to streamline the admissions process for special admissions programs.

Employees must be able to work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, and community members with a commitment to diversity as a learning outcome to be culturally respectful, professionally competent, and civically responsible.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of Germanna Community College. We recognize our responsibility to create, maintain, and nurture an academic and social environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas. We are committed to being an inclusive community that respects all cultures, experiences, and abilities and that prepares individuals to thrive in a global society. An EEO/AA Employer
