Position Title: Curriculum Partnership Program College Counselor
Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades Pre-K-12. Position Purpose: Germantown Academy is seeking a college counselor for their Curriculum Partnership Program. Based in the US, the counselor will travel to our partner school in Beijing, China a minimum of three times a year for five to ten working days each visit, and will work exclusively with CPP students in Beijing. This is a 12-month position beginning July 1, 2025. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience with an excellent array of benefits.
The CPP College Counselor will participate in all aspects of the program. They will serve as a College Counselor for 20-25 students per grade (grades 10-12), guiding them and their parents through the college search and application process. Candidates must demonstrate a genuine interest in liaising between Western and Asian cultures. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering all aspects of the college search and application process, including but not limited to:
Essential Functions:
•Educate students and parents about the college admission process, trends, and policies
•Serve as a liaison with college and university admission offices
•Coordinate college search process according to each student’s personality, interests, talents, and career aspirations
•Administer training services for students on college/university profile analysis, essay writing workshops, and interview preparation
•Write recommendation for 20-25 grade 12 students each year
•Help students utilize Cialfo
•Provide selection, timing, and preparation advice on standardized testing such as the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL
•Conduct virtual sessions with students/parents
•Maintain regular contact with students and parents
•Travel to Beijing 3 times per year for 5-10 working days per visit
•Assist with exchange programs between the two schools, including planning and delivery of annual Winter Immersion Program where 15 students travel from Beijing to Germantown Academy for 2 weeks each winter
•Travel to colleges and universities
•Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required;
•College counseling experience preferred;
•Strong communication/public speaking skills;
•Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills;
•Ability to respond effectively to needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population;
•Knowledge of American colleges and universities, academic programs, as well as admission policies;
•Knowledge of Canadian and British universities a bonus;
•Proficiency in Mandarin and experience in college counseling is preferred.
