What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Assistant Teacher position at Germantown Baptist Church Learning Center?
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of the teaching team and for assisting in implementation of the program activities under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher. An Assistant Teacher must be a Christian and an active member of a local church (preferably Germantown Baptist Church). An assistant Teacher will use every opportunity to win the unsaved to a saving faith in Jesus Christ through direct, personal communication of the Gospel and will advocate GBC as the first choice for a local church family for those in his/her ministry.
Assistant Teachers report to the Assistant Director and works under the leadership of the Lead Teacher.
Minimum Professional Qualifications
· Must meet basic requirements of the local child care regulatory agency
· Ability to relate positively with young children
· Previous teaching or assistant teaching position with a public or private school system, a quality preschool, childcare center, or a church nursery is preferred
· Certification or degree related to early childhood or preschool or elementary education is desirable, but not mandatory
· Knowledge as a parent or in previous work experience of the social, emotional, and creative needs of young children
· Must be able to lift 40 pounds in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations
Responsibilities
· Advocate GBC Vision and Mission to take advantage of Gospel opportunities in the GBCLC community
· Be an advocate for the Gospel and Germantown Baptist Church
· Provide and maintain a spiritual ministry through the GBCLC Program in keeping with the church’s purpose in establishing the program
· Adhere to the Germantown Baptist Church Personnel Policies Handbook
· Know and adhere to all licensing policies and regulations
· Maintain appropriate child ratio at all times
· Be familiar with and follow GBCLC Procedural Handbook
· Provide and maintain a TN Health form
· Provide and maintain current certificate of TNELDS training (updated every 3 years)
· Complete the state mandated introductory childcare video training prior to working in a classroom
· Complete appropriate Continuing Education yearly by the licensing deadlines
· Attends all appropriate staff meetings
· When Lead Teacher is not present, assume responsibility for the overall supervision and daily class functions of a class of children
· Warmly greets each family, every day, and helps each child to assimilate into the classroom setting
· Assists with assessing each child’s developmental needs on an ongoing basis
· Completes and submits all reports in a timely manner. Reports include, but are not limited to, monthly lesson plans, calendars, newsletters; semi-annual progress reports and assessments; incident reports and accident reports as needed; behavioral or developmental documentation as necessary
· Assists with monthly door designs, and updates parent and information board monthly as needed to include the monthly lesson plans, calendars, newsletters, etc.
· Develop and maintain a positive reputation and image within the community while creating and promoting a positive professional relationship with the Lead Teacher, Director, Assistant Director, Owners, staff, and families
· Supports and maintains good staff morale
· Reports problems to the Director or Assistant Director in a timely manner consistent with a good opportunity to improve the situation
· Maintains and updates a detailed daily room schedule for the substitute/floater notebook
· Arrives and is ready to work in a timely manner. For instance, if you are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., you should be clocked in and in your classroom at 8:30 a.m.
· Assist with planning activities to meet the needs of individual children; activities which are designed to ensure success, based on a positive foundation for growth and development
· Assist with planning, supervision, and implementation of programs for children in accordance with GBCLC’s policies and procedures
· Assume responsibility for daily maintenance of equipment, classroom, children’s restrooms, and playground; the environment should be attractive, well-kept and should encourage creativity, exploration, and decision making by the children.
· Maintains proper health and safety practices or policies, especially in the giving of medication, and care for injuries
· Provide a model classroom environment by incorporating best practices
· Provides children with verbal praises and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children’s behavior
· Assists and coordinates snacks, meals, nap time, and bathroom activities
· Support Lead Teachers
· Helps prepare the classroom for when there is scheduled time off
· Ensures that the classroom is fully stocked with supplies (cups, plates, napkins, spoons, craft supplies, etc.), to not disrupt the regular flow and routine of the classroom
· Participate in regularly scheduled and informal conferences with parents
· Participate in regular and ongoing childcare training
· Maintains an overall professional appearance, adhering to the guidelines offered in the handbook
· All other duties as assigned by the Director or the Assistant Director
