What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Clerk position at Germer PLLC?
Germer PLLC seeks a motivated, detail-oriented individual to work in a general litigation section of the firm. Some experience in an administrative role is preferred. An ideal candidate will have worked in a law firm for at least 6 months and have a general sense of the litigation process. This position would be a great fit for someone who is interested in the legal process and who is computer savvy. The candidate who fills this position should be a self-starter and needs to have a strong work ethic. This position would be ideal for an individual who is at the beginning of their legal career and would like to gain experience in litigation.
The administrative clerk is a unique role in the litigation process because they see to the day-to-day needs of the legal team while also providing integral support when cases go to trial. An administrative clerk position is a great position for someone who is considering becoming a paralegal because they support paralegals on a daily basis. The typical administrative clerk often goes on to pursue their certification for paralegal, and we have promoted this position to paralegal status internally based upon availability and need.
This position requires high computer literacy and an affinity for document management.
While most initial tasks will be purely clerical in nature, the right candidate will be given increasingly detailed tasks including the following:
- Prepare and assist with issuing subpoenas to acquire business and employment records
- Retain experts, send them materials, and communicate with them for scheduling purposes
- Review and summarize records
- Prepare witness lists
- Organize exhibits and binders
- Compile and organize expert reports
- Order driving histories and title histories
- Perform legal research regarding Plaintiffs/Claimants
- Perform social media searches for background info
- Prepare authorizations to acquire employment, education, IRS, medical, and mental health records
- Contact and communicate with courts to acquire copies of court documents
- Draft notices of deposition
- Summarize depositions
- Retain investigators
- Review and organize expert and investigator’s reports
- The more advanced tasks will be added on a gradual basis as employee becomes comfortable with our systems and organizational structure.
