Let us help you reach your potential.The Proposal Engineer is responsible for the development and submission of proposals for projects related to innovative Engineered solutions for current and potential customers. This will include assessing customer needs, designing solutions, and providing accurate cost estimates for proposed projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Collaborate with sales, engineering, and management teams to understand project requirements, objectives, and customer expectations.
- Travel to customer locations for consultations, project assessments, and presentations.
- Understand each customer s process and specifications and to develop the best solution that meets or exceeds each customer s requirements.
- Accurately interpret customer technical specifications, offering more suitable alternatives where appropriate.
- Prepare detailed proposals outlining technical solutions, project timelines, cost breakdowns, and deliverables.
- Ensure proposal pricing and estimating is consistent with the Company s established strategies on sales and marketing, billing rates, availability of engineering resources, and proposal business terms and conditions.
- Assess cost effectiveness of engineered solutions and proposals relative to solutions submitted by competitors.
- Develop processing strategy and time studies for cost estimates.
- Create layouts to verify machine selection, machine footprint, cell layouts for robot reach studies.
- Develop and maintain methods to ensure proposals and time studies are completed in a timely manner, to each customer s specifications.
- Clearly communicate proposed concepts, benefits, and value propositions to clients through written documents and presentations.
- Provide technical guidance and support to sales teams during customer interactions and presentations.
- Bachelor s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Diverse background in manufacturing and industrial engineering.
- Ability to interpret part drawings and understand GD&T and datum structures.
- Experience machining various types of materials.
- Understanding of proper cutting tool selection and required speeds and feeds for given materials.
- Proven experience in machining parts, with a deep understanding of CNC machining processes and equipment.
- Significant and varied knowledge/experience in manufacturing, including significant experience with CNC milling, turning, and automation applications.
- Minimum of 10 years of proposal experience or manufacturing engineering.
- Proficient in SolidWorks software.
- Ability to layout a manufacturing cell for functional verification and conceptual review.
- Strong understanding of workholding to ensure fixture is aligned with part datum structure.
- Not required but useful to understand robot selection and EOAT as it relates to robotic applications.
- Not required but useful to understand how to apply use of PLC s and controls logic.
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems for clamping and gripping solutions.
- Ability to estimate labor hours required for the tasks of design and build of each solution for the purpose of putting a cost to each.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and to develop strong relationships. Superior interpersonal skills necessary to effectively work with and be a resource for other team members.
- Outstanding follow-up and organization skills. Requires ability to manage concurrent projects/work tasks.
