Role Summary:
The Community Relations Specialist I will project a favorable image of the credit union to its external and internal audience and encourage positive growth of the credit union through the development and cultivation of community partnerships. Assist in the growth of unique marketing projects including the credit union’s community giving programs, high school credit unions, and affinity debit card programs. Coordinate external public relations activities for the credit union.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners and non-profits, using relationships to provide business lead referrals for retail sales, investment services, mortgage lending, commercial services, and commercial lending. Community Relations Specialist I are generally responsible for supervising a minimum of four markets, based on complexity and demand.
- Identify community development and giving opportunities, evaluate impact and make recommendations to AVP of Community Relations, Sponsorships and Education.
- Attend and represent the credit union at business development events including those held by Chambers of Commerce, trade organizations, economic development organizations, school districts, and other community partners as appropriate.
- Coordinate the creation, planning, implementation, and production of external events within established guidelines, including: project timelines, tracking, vendor relationships, budgets, event logistics, and volunteer management.
- Build and manage relationships with internal partners to effectively support and complete Community Relations and Marketing Outreach initiatives and campaigns with the goal of providing business lead referrals for retail sales, investment services, mortgage lending, commercial services, and commercial lending.
- Develop comprehensive Community Relations/Marketing Outreach plans and provide recommendations to the annual Marketing Outreach calendar with approval of the AVP of Community Relations, Sponsorships and Education with the goal of increasing participation and awareness of outreach programs, charitable giving efforts, general credit union products and services, and lead referrals.
- Supervise Community Relations/Marketing Outreach events and campaigns to ensure they are within scope, schedule, and budget. Produce and maintain reporting and statistics to reflect partnership effectiveness and report to AVP of Community Relations, Sponsorships and Education and/or internal collaborators or external partners.
- Respond to community giving and sponsorship requests by evaluating for appropriateness and adherence to credit union giving requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners and non-profits. Use relationships to provide business lead referrals for retail sales, investment services, mortgage lending, commercial services, and commercial lending.
- Support the AVP of Community Relations and Education to develop, implement, and lead various internal activities and communications to increase team member participation in community giving activities, business development, and networking opportunities.
- Promote the credit union difference as a not-for-profit financial cooperative in all work with the community and internally with credit union team members. Assist with the growth, planning, and development of concrete plans for expanding the credit union’s outreach into identified markets.
- Supervise and measure the value of Community Relations/Marketing Outreach external events and campaigns, using date and research to analyze performance to determine if goals are achieved.
- Ensure credit union brand and messaging is within approved standards and is consistent throughout all community and outreach events.
- Responsible for conceptualization and creation of compelling and engaging content including website copy, digital posts, social media content, and product/service descriptions. Make valuable contributions by actively engaging members and maintaining a cohesive brand voice.
- Coordinate internal communication with vital resources to ensure team members are aware of community relations, outreach, and partner activities, events, and campaigns.

About You:
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate ideas and information, both orally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and customer service skills.
- Able to initiate and handle workflows, establish strong relationships with a diverse group of partners, and negotiate with vendors and stakeholders on projects to be completed.
- Strong self-starter and organizational skills with the ability to build/set scheduled, create and lead budgets, create and suggest marketing plans, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work cohesively and successfully in a team environment.
- Ability to perform administrative tasks using various computer applications as required.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
- Two to four years of similar or related experience in a financial institution, community development, or community relations/events position.
- Four-year college degree suggested with an emphasis in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or related field is suggested.
- Experience making presentations, using presentation equipment, and maintaining tact and subtlety when communicating.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer software programs such as Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) used in required duties.
- Proven ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently, with moderate supervision.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, constantly evolving, and sometimes ambiguous work environment.
- Some travel is required to complete credit union training, attend employee meeting and events, and to fulfill duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain an active Driver’s License.
