The Tool & Die Technician will apply knowledge and expertise in the performance of scheduled and unscheduled tool, die, and fixture fabrication, repair, and other tool & die maintenance related activities. The Tool & Die Technician will participate with advanced troubleshooting activities and continuous improvement initiatives by providing appropriate technical knowledge to recommend and implement improvements and corrective actions. Various technologies will be employed including stamping presses, robotic welding/assembly.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform troubleshooting activities, implement corrective actions, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure dimensional capability for various tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures associated with stamping press, MIG welding, paint, and robotic operations;
2. Respond to work orders and assure timely resolution of requests;
3. Fabricate new and repair replacement details for robots;
4. Build, assemble, and maintain fixtures;
5. Inspect and maintain existing tooling to ensure production of quality products which comply with company and customer standards and specifications;
6. Fabricate production aids;
7. Monitor inventory of items required to perform necessary duties, and submit procurement requests as required;
8. Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
9. Comply with standardized work instructions, suggest improvements as appropriate;
10. Cooperate with internal and external certification audits and customer audits, supporting site initiatives towards achieving and maintaining customer awards as well as quality and environmental certifications (IATF, TS, ISO);
11. Adhere to Team Handbook, Quality, Safety, and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures;
12. Assure all safety devices are properly in place and utilized, PPE is worn correctly at all times, and reporting of any near-misses, injuries, or accidents occurs immediately;
13. Perform additional tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
2. Completion of apprenticeship program and Department of Labor (DOL) issued Journeyman’s card; or the ability to obtain one with sponsorship.
3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a production stamping facility working with transfer presses and heavy dies strongly preferred;
4. Working knowledge of machine shop equipment including mills and surface grinders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to read and interpret prints.
2. Ability to obtain Hilo and crane certifications, including medical evaluations.
3. Desire to work in a team-based, lean-manufacturing environment.
4. Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate.
5. Ability and willingness to work any shift, as well as overtime, as required to meet business requirements.
6. Ability to provide own basic precision and hand tools.
