Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging ASL lessons tailored to accommodate varying proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced.
- Develop and enhance a comprehensive curriculum that not only teaches American Sign Language but also nurtures awareness and appreciation of Deaf culture.
- Regularly assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching methodologies to support individual learning paths.
- Encourage active engagement with the Deaf community through events and outreach initiatives, offering students real-world learning experiences.
- Commit to ongoing professional development by staying current with best practices in ASL instruction and Deaf cultural awareness.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language.
- In-depth knowledge of Deaf culture and history.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and effective classroom management.
- Familiarity with digital tools for virtual instruction is preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Education, or a related field is preferred. ASL instruction certification (such as ASLTA certification) is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience teaching ASL in various environments, with a focus on diverse learner groups, including children and adults, as well as individuals with special needs being an asset.
