Job Overview

We are in search of a proficient and committed Virtual Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate seamless communication among students, educators, and parents in live instructional sessions, video conferencing, and various digital learning platforms. This pivotal role is crucial in promoting an inclusive and accessible educational experience for students with hearing impairments, ensuring equitable access to learning resources and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver real-time interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during live classes, meetings, and virtual conferences.
• Collaborate effectively with educators to modify instructional materials, guaranteeing that all content is accessible to students with hearing challenges.
• Create a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere for all learners, aiding in bridging communication divides and enhancing student engagement.
• Interact directly with students, teachers, and parents to address communication obstacles and ensure effective comprehension during remote learning activities.
• Aid in the adaptation of educational tools and technologies to meet the diverse needs of students, thereby supporting their success in the online classroom.
  
  

Required Skills

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) along with a solid understanding of various sign systems utilized in educational contexts.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with students, staff, and parents.
• Flexibility to manage the distinctive challenges associated with remote learning while accommodating students’ diverse needs.
• A deep commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible educational experience for all students.
• An EIPA score of at least 3.5 or an equivalent level of competency.
  
  

Qualifications

• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) or a comparable qualification.
• Prior experience in interpreting within educational settings, particularly in virtual or remote environments.
