Key Responsibilities
- Assess and analyze students’ visual needs, formulating individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s requirements.
- Develop and execute innovative instructional strategies that incorporate diverse learning materials and pedagogical techniques.
- Provide specialized instruction in Braille, mobility skills, and assistive technologies, ensuring students are equipped for success.
- Collaborate with classroom educators and specialists to implement inclusive practices and customize lesson plans.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate students’ progress, making adjustments to educational strategies as necessary.
- Advocate for equitable educational opportunities for visually impaired students while raising awareness within the educational community.
- Proficient in Braille and familiar with assistive technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and dedication to supporting students with visual impairments.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Master's degree in Special Education or a relevant field.
- Valid certification in Visual Impairment Education (TVI certification) for Maine is required.
- Experience in developing and implementing IEPs is advantageous but not mandatory.
