Key Responsibilities
- Lead national media and press initiatives, fostering strong relationships to ensure prominent media coverage.
- Direct press outreach and manage coverage for significant events, both nationally and internationally.
- Act as the organization’s representative at major events such as National DNA Day and other pivotal conferences.
- Effectively manage crisis communication, ensuring the organization maintains a strong, consistent voice.
- Oversee the organization's flagship newsmagazine and electronic member newsletters as Managing Editor.
- Draft, edit, and proof various communication materials tailored for both internal and external audiences.
- Supervise the development of press releases, media kits, speeches, and presentations to convey the organization’s mission and activities.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to design and execute strategic communication plans tailored to diverse audiences.
- Spearhead marketing communications campaigns to position the organization as a leader in the field of medical genetics.
- Assess and report on the effectiveness of campaigns, encompassing media relations, digital marketing, and social media strategies.
- Promote special initiatives such as Medical Genetics Awareness Week, leveraging diverse platforms to emphasize the medical genetics field’s contributions.
- Manage the organization’s social media presence, devising strategies to enhance engagement across platforms including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram.
- Stay attuned to emerging social media trends and integrate new tactics to boost audience interaction and growth.
- Analyze and refine social media performance metrics to optimize engagement and enhance reputation.
- Ensure that all communications are consistent with the organization’s brand voice and adhere to established messaging and visual standards.
- Guide external vendors, including graphic designers and content creators, to produce high-quality communication materials.
- Provide expertise in internal communications to facilitate cross-departmental initiatives.
- Extensive experience in media relations, digital marketing, and earned media campaigns.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for crafting clear and compelling messages for varied audiences.
- Proven ability in project management, adept at juggling multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media tools; familiarity with iMIS is advantageous.
- A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field is a prerequisite; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in communications strategy, ideally within a nonprofit, medical, or science-oriented organization.

- Salary Range: \(150,000 - \)160,000
- This is primarily a sedentary role with occasional light lifting and domestic travel requirements of up to 10%.
