Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the accounting team, guaranteeing that financial processes align with the strategic objectives of the organization.
- Manage the financial cycle, including budgets, audits, and the preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Facilitate reporting to external funders and stakeholders.
- Enhance and maintain accounting systems, policies, and procedures related to contributions, program revenue, payroll, expenses, and fixed assets.
- Review contracts related to revenue and expenses to ensure precise accounting and compliance.
- Conduct reconciliations of financial statements while ensuring conformity with GAAP and organizational policies.
- Provide expert guidance to accountants on GAAP applications, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Generate monthly financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist the CFO in overseeing accounting policies, procedures, and annual audits.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CPA preferred).
- 7-10 years of experience in accounting and finance, including prior leadership roles.
- Profound knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fund accounting software (experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Raiser's Edge NXT is advantageous).
- Capacity to identify and implement enhancements in processes.
- Experience within a nonprofit setting with multiple service programs is highly valued.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and training capabilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with both finance and non-finance teams.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities efficiently.
- Commitment to ethical decision-making and adherence to regulatory compliance.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
