Key Responsibilities
- Manage state sales and tobacco tax reporting processes for e-commerce, distribution, and retail operations.
- Employ tools such as SAP, IGEN, SOVOS, and AVALARA to produce precise tax reports.
- Review, analyze, and validate tax reports, ensuring compliance while rectifying discrepancies.
- Collaborate with software vendors to enhance the accuracy and reliability of reports.
- Participate in industry calls monthly to keep abreast of regulatory changes affecting remote sellers.
- Prepare and review monthly state tobacco and sales tax returns.
- Assist in system upgrades and software implementation initiatives aimed at improving tax processes.
- Prepare annual Tangible Personal Property Tax Reports.
- Stay current with tax regulations and technological advancements to promote innovation and compliance.
- Provide guidance and documentation for team members to institutionalize processes and adapt to evolving tax laws.
- Build trust with stakeholders by adhering to ethical standards and promoting transparency.
- Strong analytical capabilities and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUP and PivotTables.
- Understanding of business process flows and internal controls.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Hands-on approach with effective delegation skills.
- Flexible and decisive, possessing a mature, team-oriented mindset.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting or tax compliance (including public accounting, state tax departments, or corporate tax roles).
- Familiarity with SAP, Avalara, or similar excise tax software is advantageous.
