Key Responsibilities
- Create a welcoming, person-centered atmosphere that empowers individuals with disabilities to excel in community-based settings.
- Design, organize, and execute diverse recreational programs, including Special Olympics, fitness initiatives, creative expression, and community events.
- Act as the head coach for Special Olympics, overseeing participation and ensuring a fulfilling experience for all involved.
- Uphold a safe and inclusive environment by enforcing facility regulations and monitoring activities in compliance with safety standards.
- Assess the interests, abilities, and needs of residents to tailor activities that foster independence and meaningful engagement.
- Cultivate relationships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to enhance recreational offerings.
- Promote programs through effective marketing strategies, including social media and community outreach.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and staff who contribute to recreational programs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs based on participant feedback and participation metrics, implementing improvements as necessary.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to align recreational activities with residents' care plans and goals.
- Document services provided and prepare necessary reports and assessments.
- Manage the scheduling of recreational facilities and oversee the program budget to ensure efficient resource utilization.
- Familiarity with electronic document systems and service tracking is advantageous.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Special Education, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is required.
- Must pass a criminal background check, state/federal registry checks, and child abuse & neglect background check.
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and must be at least 21 years old to operate company vehicles.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% between IL sites for meetings and training.
