Key Responsibilities
- Interact with patients to review charges, collect balances, and schedule future appointments.
- Accurately enter charges related to over-the-counter supplies and post payments from insurance and patients in our practice management system.
- Conduct end-of-day financial reconciliation to maintain precision in financial records.
- Address billing and coding inquiries from patients, staff, and insurance companies.
- Prepare patient charts in anticipation of upcoming appointments.
- Verify insurance benefits and secure necessary referrals and authorizations as required.
- Manage medical records, including the distribution of records and the uploading of patient information to electronic charts.
- Uphold patient confidentiality while strictly adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Execute additional related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma.
- 2-3 years of billing experience, preferably in the field of ophthalmology.
- CPC or CPB certification is mandatory.
- Proficiency in medical insurance protocols and patient management systems (knowledge of AdvancedMD is advantageous).
- Familiarity with basic medical coding and third-party payer processes.
- Competency in using email, Microsoft Office, and various online applications.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional organizational abilities and a keen attention to detail.
- Capability to operate a multi-line telephone system.
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Certification in medical coding or billing (CPC or CPB).
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in ophthalmology.
