Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Community Engineer to join our team in a remote capacity, where you’ll play a crucial role in supporting initiatives within the vibrant Ubuntu community. Your expertise in open-source software will empower developers, contributors, and volunteers to meet their objectives while ensuring seamless integration with overarching project plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively collaborate with a geographically dispersed team to enhance community engagement.
  • Produce compelling, high-quality content to advocate for and promote community initiatives.
  • Facilitate discussions and teamwork to devise solutions for community-related challenges.
  • Represent the community at global events and conferences, with an anticipated travel commitment of 2 to 4 weeks annually.
  • Cultivate and encourage contributions to the Ubuntu project from community members.
  • Actively engage with the Ubuntu community across various platforms, including forums, IRC, and social media.
  • Serve as a community representative at events and conferences, contributing to speaking engagements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with developer tools and open-source projects.
  • A well-documented history of contributions, such as blog posts or GitHub projects.
  • Solid interest and experience in Ubuntu Linux (both kernel and userspace), DevOps, software development, testing, QA, and container technology.
  • Capability to work independently and take ownership of objectives.
  • Adaptability to new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with volunteer contributor workflows within open-source communities.

Qualifications

  • Background in DevOps, software development, testing, or quality assurance, with strong Linux skills.
  • Experience in engaging with open-source communities and community management is preferred.
