Key Responsibilities
- Manage a comprehensive international patent portfolio, collaborating closely with our in-house patent attorneys, agents, and paralegals.
- Review all incoming and outgoing mail and filings for the patent department, identifying critical due dates for timely entry into the docketing database.
- Efficiently route docketing correspondence to the appropriate legal staff to ensure seamless communication.
- Download and process electronic correspondence from USPTO databases and foreign patent offices through our patent database.
- Proactively monitor and manage deadlines, consulting with relevant attorneys and paralegals to guarantee compliance.
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly docket reports, as well as any other reports as requested.
- Follow up on daily docket deadlines, ensuring that all critical timeframes are communicated effectively, considering any international time differences.
- Collaborate with legal staff to maintain an accurate and up-to-date docket database.
- Liaise with foreign agents regarding international patent matters.
- Assist with annuity and maintenance fee payments to keep patents in good standing.
- Support various legal formalities such as powers of attorney, notarizations, and inventor oaths, along with general office duties as assigned.
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficiency in patent docketing software and strong technical experience with USPTO and international IP databases.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF tools, and Excel.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
- Effective prioritization and multitasking skills.
- Ability to collaborate successfully across various internal teams.
- Capability to perform effectively under pressure.
- A minimum of 7 years of professional docketing experience in a legal setting.
- Demonstrated experience navigating the USPTO database and electronic filing systems.
- Experience working with foreign agents regarding patent matters.
