Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute a robust data strategy that aligns with our mission. Lead and guide a talented team of data science and engineering experts.
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable data architectures, pipelines, and databases to facilitate the large-scale quantification of soil carbon removals and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV).
- Oversee the collection, integration, and validation of data from diverse sources, including soil sensors and satellite imagery, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Spearhead the development of data-driven MRV solutions to monitor, verify, and report on land management practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Drive the creation and deployment of advanced analytics, machine learning models, and predictive algorithms to bolster carbon measurement and monitoring capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including environmental scientists and software engineers, to embed data solutions into our carbon management platform.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations that offer actionable insights to both internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Stay abreast of evolving trends and technologies in data science and environmental sustainability, identifying opportunities to enhance our data capabilities.
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in data science, data engineering, or a related discipline, accompanied by a proven record of leadership and innovation.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a relevant field; a PhD is an advantage.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, and database management, including SQL and NoSQL.
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and big data technologies.
- Strong foundation in statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
- Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data is highly desirable.
- Experience in developing MRV systems for carbon projects is a significant advantage.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of conveying complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A passion for contributing to the regenerative movement, with a fundamental understanding of soil carbon storage and regenerative land management practices.
- Previous experience in a startup environment is preferred but not mandatory; adaptability to a fast-paced and growing environment is essential.
- Ability to work from our office located in downtown San Antonio.
