Remote Senior Security Engineer - Subject Matter Expert (SME) | WFH

Job Overview

We are actively searching for a Senior Security Engineer - Subject Matter Expert (SME) to enhance our dedicated team. This pivotal role involves managing security solutions across both legacy systems and cloud environments, primarily operating in a remote capacity with occasional on-site commitments in Maryland, including a potential interview in downtown Baltimore.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and oversee security strategies tailored for cloud and legacy systems, emphasizing governance, compliance, and infrastructure hosting.
• Lead initiatives related to security audits, project management, policy formulation, and sustain strong relationships across various agencies.
• Provide expert guidance and documentation to ensure compliance with NIST, FISMA, and RMA security policies, facilitating the generation of Authority to Operate (ATO) for AWS platforms.
• Implement proven security best practices to safeguard sensitive information (PII, FTI) during storage and transmission, including SSL certificates, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and encryption techniques.
• Manage hosting vendor relations, change management, and incident response processes effectively.
• Collaborate with leadership on the design, documentation, and implementation of selected security tools.
• Lead cross-functional teams, fostering trust and consensus among stakeholders at different levels of the organization.
• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements concerning security.
  
  

Required Skills

• 15 years of IT experience, demonstrating a robust understanding of cybersecurity and risk management.
• Exceptional communication skills to convey complex security and risk concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
• Experience with cybersecurity management frameworks, regulatory mandates, and industry best practices.
• Strong leadership capabilities, with a proven track record of motivating teams and delivering high-quality outcomes under pressure.
• A critical thinker with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively across diverse teams and organizations.
• Proficient in multitasking and managing stress efficiently.
• Specialized experience including:
• 5 years in IT security.
• 2 years in cloud security (preferably AWS).
• 5 years in areas such as security architecture, vulnerability management, encryption, operating system security, security compliance, and identity management.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field (IT-related disciplines preferred).
• Master's degree is preferred.
• Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CAP, and Security are highly desirable.
