Key Responsibilities
- Client Consultation & Estate Planning Development: Engage with clients to evaluate their estate planning needs and objectives. Offer clear legal counsel on available options, including the drafting of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives.
- Drafting & Reviewing Legal Documents: Create and tailor estate planning documents such as wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, advance directives, powers of attorney, and business succession plans.
- Estate & Trust Administration: Assist clients with the administration of estates and trusts, guiding executors and trustees through the probate process, asset distribution, and necessary tax filings in accordance with South Carolina law.
- Estate & Tax Planning Strategies: Provide strategic advice to clients on minimizing estate, gift, and generation-skipping taxes through methods such as charitable giving and tax-efficient wealth transfer.
- Probate Court Representation: Represent clients in South Carolina probate courts as needed, including applying for letters testamentary and addressing estate disputes.
- Risk Management & Asset Protection: Counsel clients on asset protection tactics, utilizing trusts and LLCs to shield assets from potential risks and liabilities.
- Ongoing Client Relationships: Foster long-term relationships with clients, informing them about changes in estate planning legislation and its implications.
- Legal Research & Compliance: Remain informed about updates in estate planning and tax law relevant to South Carolina, incorporating new developments into client strategies.
- Collaboration & Firm Development: Collaborate with fellow attorneys and staff to enhance client service and operational effectiveness.
- Profound knowledge of estate planning laws, probate processes, and tax regulations specific to South Carolina.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work autonomously while also being an integral part of a team.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active and valid license to practice law in South Carolina.
