Job Overview
The Investment Accountant will play a pivotal role in managing and reconciling brokerage and asset accounts, ensuring the prompt and accurate reporting of portfolio and client data. This position requires a strong accounting foundation, attention to detail, and effective organizational and communication skills, all while adhering to strict deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement accounting policies, procedures, and KPIs to ensure the accurate delivery of daily, monthly, and quarterly outputs.
- Reconcile investment records and activities on a daily, monthly, or quarterly basis.
- Investigate and align external custodial records with internal investment accounting systems.
- Process and post transactions from the investment accounting system to the general ledger.
- Calculate and record period-end market value adjustments.
- Ensure consistency of cost and market values across various systems.
- Generate and distribute financial statements.
- Conduct reviews of financial statements to guarantee precision and completeness.
- Actively monitor workflows to identify issues and facilitate timely approvals.
- Execute journal entries for financial reporting on a regular basis.
- Contribute to meetings, projects, and initiatives as required.
- Proficient in accounting principles and practices.
- Advanced Excel skills, including v-lookups and pivot tables.
- Familiarity with traditional and alternative investments.
- Strong organizational abilities with a capacity to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proactive team player with a strong sense of initiative.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within the investment or financial services sector.
- Experience with balance sheet and portfolio account reconciliations is essential.
- Knowledge of accounting systems and reconciliation tools is advantageous (e.g., Clearwater, Caissa, Addepar, Advent, JD Edwards).
