Key Responsibilities
As a Senior General Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
- Accounting Operations (50%): Manage accounting functions for our organization and its subsidiaries, including the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes. Guarantee the timely and accurate documentation of financial information for internal decision-making and external audits. Collaborate across departments to provide analytical support and accounting insights. Prepare comprehensive reports, conduct account analyses, and perform variance analyses on operating results. Present operational findings to department leaders and assist in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Reporting (25%): Generate financial statements and reports in alignment with various accounting standards, including US GAAP, FERC, and SEC regulations.
- Internal Controls (10%): Supervise all aspects of General Accounting systems, ensuring the accurate recording and reporting of all transactions. Conduct verification tests to validate the integrity of data feeds to the trial balance and maintain up-to-date account reconciliations.
- Systems Development (10%): Identify and propose enhancements to improve the efficiency of General Accounting systems and processes, particularly concerning the monthly close cycle. Ensure the reliability of accounting information systems, including Excel, Flexi General Ledger, and Renovo Financial Reporting.
- Regulatory Compliance (5%): Prepare required reports and manage data requests to satisfy the requirements of regulatory agencies such as FERC, MDPU, NHPUC, and MPUC.
- Additional Support: Provide assistance during the company's storm restoration initiatives as necessary.
- Strong technical accounting competencies
- Excellent interpersonal abilities with a collaborative approach
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel
- Knowledge of US GAAP, FERC, and SEC regulations
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; CPA or MBA preferred.
- 4-6 years of General Ledger accounting experience or equivalent; experience in utility accounting is advantageous.
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset.
