Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and consolidate group financial statements along with accompanying notes in adherence to US GAAP standards.
- Review and develop accounting memos and journal entries, ensuring strict compliance with applicable regulations.
- Conduct thorough reconciliations of underwriting accounts from the general ledger to source documentation.
- Analyze investment reconciliations for consistency between the general ledger and Clearwater reports.
- Communicate accounting results effectively to management, providing insightful analysis.
- Maintain compliance with established accounting practices, reporting processes, and internal controls.
- Foster relationships with both internal and external auditors, addressing GAAP and statutory reporting inquiries.
- Drive initiatives for process improvements to bolster efficiency in financial reporting.
- Lead or support investment accounting projects that align with our overarching strategic objectives.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets.
- Stay abreast of relevant accounting regulations and internal control standards.
- Assist in developing investment strategies and recommend approaches aligning with company guidelines.
- Evaluate and rationalize investment managers and associated fees, as well as prepare necessary documentation for internal and external use.
- Coordinate with various departments including Underwriting, Finance, and Legal to ensure cohesive operations.
- Attend audit and risk committee meetings to present financial insights.
- Manage internal loan documentation and collaborate with the group controller regarding banking covenants.
- Profound understanding of investment products and accounting treatments for various asset classes, including fixed maturity, equity, and alternative investments.
- Advanced proficiency in US GAAP, especially concerning financial statement preparation.
- Strong Excel skills, including data analysis functions and pivot tables.
- Familiarity with capital, debt, and currency markets, along with investment KPIs and ratios.
- CPA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent certification is mandatory.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in property and casualty (P&C) insurance.
- At least 5 years’ experience in financial reporting under US GAAP, preferably with a Big 4 firm.
