SQL Database Administrator (Remote Position)

Responsibilities
Manage and maintain SQL Server instances across multiple environments, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance.
Implement and support geoclustering solutions to enhance disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
Monitor database performance, fine-tune SQL queries, and optimize database configurations for efficiency improvements.
Develop and deploy automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools to streamline routine DBA tasks, deployments, and monitoring.
Effectively manage table locks and concurrency issues to minimize disruptions in production environments.
Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades, including transitioning on-premises databases to Azure cloud services.
Configure and oversee SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups to ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
Utilize performance monitoring tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Azure Monitor, or third-party solutions to proactively monitor and analyze database performance.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot database-related issues and implement timely solutions.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on database configurations, processes, automation scripts, and procedures.
Implement and enforce database security best practices to ensure compliance with organizational standards and regulations.
Participate in on-call rotations and promptly respond to database incidents as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Proven track record as a SQL Server DBA in large-scale production environments, with a focus on operational excellence.
Deep understanding of SQL Server internals, including geoclustering, table locks, and concurrency management.
Experience in designing and implementing robust database backup and recovery strategies.
Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and effective index management.
Hands-on experience with database migration tools and methodologies, especially to Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
Strong scripting abilities using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages for automating DBA tasks and deployments.
Familiarity with performance monitoring tools and techniques to diagnose and resolve database performance issues.
Solid grasp of database security principles and best practices.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve database issues efficiently under pressure.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
