As a Senior Principal Airworthiness Engineer within our Office of Independent Airworthiness (OIAW), you will assume a vital role in assuring airworthiness certification across a range of air vehicle platforms. This role is based in San Diego, CA, with a preference for candidates located within commuting distance, although remote work options are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead technical airworthiness planning and verification, which includes formulating and negotiating airworthiness plans, certification bases, compliance measures, and other certification-related activities for intricate systems.
- Collaborate with fellow airworthiness engineers and internal engineering teams to oversee the comprehensive lifecycle encompassing design, fabrication, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
- Perform functional and process analyses, alongside requirements allocation, to translate client specifications into actionable criteria and derived requirements.
- Manage and uphold airworthiness documentation supporting Military Flight Releases and ongoing airworthiness as a dedicated member of the technical airworthiness team.
- Excel in a dynamic work environment, adeptly managing diverse tasks while fostering collaboration across all organizational levels.
- Expertise with MIL-HDBK-516B and -516C.
- Demonstrated experience in crafting airworthiness plans and bases for certification.
- Proficiency in domestic and international UAS/RPAS airworthiness authorizations and type certifications.
- Capability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 9 years of pertinent experience; Master's degree with 7 years; or PhD with 4 years.
- Proven track record in initiating enhancements to airworthiness certification processes.
- Familiarity with USAF Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Bulletins is preferred.

- Salary Range: \(121,000 - \)199,600. This range serves as a guideline; the final offer will reflect the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and prevailing market conditions.
