Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in medical or mental health billing. This role is vital to ensuring accurate billing processes and maintaining smooth financial operations by collaborating with therapists, clients, and insurance providers.
Key Responsibilities
Billing and Claims Processing
- Accurately submit and track insurance claims for mental health services.
- Review, correct, and resubmit denied claims to secure timely payment.
- Process and post payments from clients and insurance providers efficiently.
Insurance Verification and Authorization
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for clients prior to appointments.
- Obtain pre-authorizations as required by insurance providers.
Record Keeping and Compliance
- Maintain organized and detailed records of billing and financial transactions.
- Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, while handling confidential information.
Client Support
- Respond promptly to client inquiries about billing, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Assist clients in understanding their statements and setting up payment plans if needed.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare financial reports such as outstanding accounts, aging reports, and monthly revenue data.
- Work with the finance team to ensure all financial transactions are reconciled accurately.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical or mental health billing, preferably involving insurance claims.
- Proficiency with billing software and EHR systems (e.g., Opus, TherapyNotes).
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of insurance billing, including CPT codes for mental health services.
- Familiarity with Medicaid and commercial insurance regulations in Kentucky.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for client and provider interactions.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to work independently.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and ability to conduct online research.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- An associate degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
