TITLE: Teacher Special Education Preschool
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To create a flexible program favorable to learning and personal growth for the student in the least restrictive environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Arizona Special Education certification with MHA, EDA or LDA specialization with Early Childhood endorsement or Early Childhood Special Education (Birth to Age 5) certification
- Master Degree in special Education (preferred)
- Provisional SEI endorsement or full ESL or Bilingual endorsement
- Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment, and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students. Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability
- Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty
- Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in multicultural environment with diverse population of students, staff, and parents
- May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint; therefore must possess a degree of physical strength and dexterity
- Maintain current NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification
- Computer proficiency in district designated computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office, MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct instruction to disabled preschool students based on their IEP and the Arizona State Standards.
- Provide direct instruction to typical PEERS based on Arizona State Standards.
- Conduct appropriate academic evaluations; develop, implement and monitor appropriate academic/behavioral individual education plans (IEP’s).
- Confer and consult with regular classroom teachers regarding student needs and progress.
- Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress.
- Participate in the MET process.
- Plan, conduct and/or participate in training activities and department meetings.
- Attend all necessary trainings and department meetings.
- Maintain on-going communication (verbal and written) with parents of special education students.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
- Consult with staff members regarding interventions and accommodations for students.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
- Direct activities of instructional assistants.
- Participate in preschool screenings.
- Provide performance evaluation in-put regarding special education instructional assistant(s) to school administrator.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service professional development activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Maintain DHS instructor requirements.
- Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and creative to meet individual student needs.
- Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect.
- May be required to participate in student’s meetings that may occur beyond the staff’s work assignment schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
