An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking an Engineer III to join our growing Water Resources team in Vernon Hills, IL.
How you will make an impact:
The Water Resource Engineer III will report to the Division Director and perform engineering design and project management tasks for a wide variety of water resources projects. They will lead design of stormwater management systems and mentor and manage junior engineering staff. This role is exempt, salary position. We offer a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership role to fully manage all contractual responsibilities of assigned projects with our clients.
- Project Manager to lead the design of stormwater management systems, drainage studies, watershed planning, plan preparations, specifications, and other related tasks. Such work may include coordinating and assisting other company divisions such as Site Design, Transportation, Municipal, Survey, and Construction Divisions.
- Mentoring and management of junior engineering staff assigned to projects.
- Client management and team coordination with other engineers, technicians, and other design professionals as necessary to perform work.
- Attendance and management of meetings with clients, municipalities, sub-consultants, other in-house team members, and contractors.
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and reports, drainage investigation, floodplain and floodway analyses, and design of stormwater management systems and green infrastructures.
- Coordination and compliance with regulatory agencies and securing various construction permits and approvals.
- Preparation of proposals, which include scope, schedules, and budget.

Qualifications
What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois.
Experience:
- 8 years of direct civil engineering design experience with an emphasis on water resources field.
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License and registered insured personal vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be a project leader with a high level of proficiency in complex water resources projects.
- Self-starting, detail-oriented individual, with organizational and interpersonal skills essential.
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.
- The ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
- Proficient with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software.
- Working knowledge of Civil3D and GIS.
- High level of knowledge of federal, state, and local stormwater, floodplain and floodway requirements and experience in obtaining various regulatory permits.
