An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking an Engineer IV to join our growing Construction and Survey team in Vernon Hills, IL.
How you will make an impact:
The Engineer IV will report to the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager and perform project management tasks for a wide variety of construction projects. This role is an exempt, salaried, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform moderately challenging duties including assisting in the preparation of detailed technical reports, exhibits, engineering plans, calculations, contract specifications, and opinions of probable cost.
- Serve as the lead on-site project representative performing Phase III construction engineering duties as it relates to the process of observing construction improvements to ensure contractor’s work complies with contract plans, specifications, and standards.
- Perform plan checking including reviewing and finalizing material take-offs and quality assurance.
- Review the work of others for completeness and accuracy.
- Perform a variety of related office or field tasks to gather, analyze and record data; prepare a variety of memos, letters and other correspondence related to plan reviews.
- Communicates with project managers and clients regarding project issues; attend and/or moderate meetings and provides meeting minutes.
- Perform moderately complex technical engineering functions in both field and office environments and requires the ability to work independently and in a team environment, managing various, simultaneous projects with minimal errors.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:
- Eight (8) years of civil engineering, municipal engineering, or design experience including four (4) years as a major contributor on contract deliverable development or project leader.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or another state with the ability to obtain licensure in Illinois within 6 months preferred.
- Experience participating in industry professional societies preferred.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License and registered insured personal vehicle.
- IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities Certification required.
- Additional professional licensure and certifications preferred (Ex. PTOE, CFM, etc.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to independently identify, evaluate, select, and apply engineering criteria and standards to manage the development of technical documents across several engineering disciplines.
- Manage the development of technical documents frequently requiring the use of engineering design software or delegation of design software usage to team members.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the requirements and processes of low to medium complexity projects sufficient for developing work plans and reviewing work products.
- Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that will work in a collaborative environment to set and manage project and task scope/schedules/effort expectations in compliance to the Division’s Quality Management Plan and clearly communicates them to other team members.
- Ability to manage personal schedule to align with multiple project schedules while communicating progress status to team members and supervisor.
- Lead project-related communication and meetings with clients and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrate the ability to technically mentor and train junior-level engineers.
- Assist in the development of portions of project proposals.
- Proficiency with software products:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Possess the ability to interpret and apply state and local policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations, and prepare reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for projects with limited oversight.
- Knowledge of and perform required documentation for Phase III Construction Engineering utilizing County, State, and Tollway guidelines and processes.
- Maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending internal technical/management training.
- Assist engineering or senior technical staff in the preparation of engineering designs and reports, related drawings, contract specifications, and construction project opinions of probable cost.
- Possess a thorough understanding and participate in the preparation of engineering designs and reports, related drawings, specifications, and construction projects estimates.

Salary : $82,000 - $125,000
