An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our growing Civil Design team in Vernon Hills, IL.
How you will make an impact:
The Project Engineer will report to the Division Director and perform complex engineering functions. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, the capability to carry out assignments with limited oversight in a timely manner, and the ability to be a self-starter. This role is an exempt, salary, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard and complex engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Manage project schedules and train junior engineers and/or technicians on projects.
- Self-starting, detail-oriented individual with organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Visit project sites to troubleshoot complex construction issues and be able to effectively communicate desired outcomes.
- Complete engineering tasks with limited oversight and seek feedback at appropriate periods of work under the supervision and mentoring of project managers.
- Work in a team setting with other team members within all divisions of the company.
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines.
- Assist in proposal preparation and technical report writing.
- Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in-house systems/management training.

Qualifications
What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Experience:
- Have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
- Have at least 4 years of civil engineering experience and 2 years experience as a major contributor, or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with Microstation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D
- Must be able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
