An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Service Lead to join our growing Public Works team in Vernon Hills, Illinois.
What you can expect:
The Service Lead will report to the Division Director and requires independent work skills in the day-to-day operations. They will collaborate with GHA staff, clients, as as well outside agencies to implement corporate and division objectives, goals, and strategic initiatives. This role is an exempt, salary, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership role to fully manage all contractual responsibilities of assigned projects with our clients.
- Mentoring and management of junior staff assigned to projects.
- Client management and team coordination with other professionals as necessary to perform work.
- Attendance and management of meetings with clients, municipalities, regulatory agencies, sub-consultants, other in-house team members, and contractors.
- Preparation of proposals, which include scope, schedules, and budget.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
-
Related Bachelor’s Degree required in field related to the projects managed.

Formal training in project management preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:
-
Related project experience including eight (8) years as a project manager.
-
Experience participating in industry professional societies preferred.
-
Valid Illinois Driver’s License and registered insured personal vehicle.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
-
Perform at a high level in staff management, client management or a combination of both as summarized below.

Manage a staff of six (6) to twelve (12) direct reports and/or a Project Manager II with responsibilities that include:

Completing yearly goals development and achievement

Conducting yearly performance reviews and providing input on compensation adjustments

Planning staff career development and facilitating training to align with team needs across multiple project teams

Prioritizing non-billable team assignments
-

Possess a thorough understanding of the requirements and processes of high complexity projects sufficient for reviewing work products.

Use project management tools to monitor project schedule, budget and manpower requirements across multiple project teams and communicate those expectations accordingly. This includes reviewing draft invoices from Project Managers and discussing project performance.

Ability to shift team priorities when needed during project development.

Perform site visits to observe and/or troubleshoot complex issues when required.

Lead project-related communication and meetings with clients and other stakeholders or monitors the communication from support teams.

Manage overall client relationship with GHA.

Ability to lead the development of project proposals or lead specific elements of the proposal, as well as seek new opportunities to submit proposals.
