An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Staff Engineering Technician to join our growing Civil Design team in Vernon Hills, IL.
How you will make an impact:
The Staff Engineering Technician will report to the Division Director and participation in a variety of technical engineering work involving both field and office support of engineering projects. This is a broad classification with individual positions assigned to specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs and staffing levels. Positions at this level receive routine instruction and assistance as new or unusual situations arise. This role is an exempt, salary, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient in office operating procedures and policies of the company.
- Have experience in the assigned tasks within your division.
- Prepares sketches and drawings.
- Provides support to professional engineering staff.
- Must be able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must have the knowledge of an engineering office, field work, required by your division, along with the physical ability to work outdoors under adverse conditions.
- Read engineering plans, interpret standard drawings and specifications, survey notes, maps and reports.
- Understand methods, practices, techniques and instruments used within your work.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Calculate grades and construction quantities.
- Engineering plan review.

Qualifications
What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc.
Education:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred.
Experience:
- Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License.
- Previous experience in Municipal work preferred.
- Two to four years of increasingly responsible technical experience at a level comparable to an Engineering Technician Level II.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in Microstation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD and Civil 3D a plus.
