Job Summary
We are seeking an Associate Scientist with 2–5 years of experience to join our Science and Technology Materials Group lab in Little Canada, Minnesota (Woodridge location). The scientist will be responsible for acquiring and processing data for materials assessments and supporting medical device project teams with both development and operational activities. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise in materials assessment techniques and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Familiarity with medical devices and regulated documentation practices is preferred.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform materials assessments using techniques such as thermal analysis, microscopy, metallurgy, and failure analysis.
- Support scientists and engineers on project teams to meet technical and operational goals.
- Document experiments and analyses in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Apply knowledge of technical concepts and principles underlying Materials Science techniques.
- Utilize surface analysis tools including microscopy, SEM/EDS, FIB, and laser confocal microscopy.
- Conduct vibrational spectroscopy techniques such as FTIR and Raman.
- Perform thermal analysis methods including DSC, TGA, TMA, and rheological techniques.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Polymer Science, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in Materials Science and Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Experience in a regulated environment and knowledge of medical devices is a plus.
