Job Summary:
School Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Transport students to and from school and/or school activities safely and on time, adhering to safety procedures and state regulations.
- Operate and drive a school bus safely in various weather conditions while ensuring passenger comfort and safety.
- Communicate bus rules, safety requirements, and behavior expectations to passengers, addressing any improper behavior promptly.
- Engage with parents to address inappropriate or unsafe behavior through effective communication skills.
- Assist passengers, including those with wheelchairs, when boarding and unloading the bus.
- Maintain daily vehicle inspections, report deficiencies, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
- Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
- Familiarize yourself with federal, state, and district regulations regarding school bus operation and adhere to traffic laws.
- Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Accurately complete records and reports and submit them to the Transportation Department in a timely manner.
- Navigate using maps and follow written directions to ensure safe routes.
- Utilize two-way radios effectively.
- Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions.
Experience and Skill Requirements
- Hold a Class A or B CDL, or be able to obtain one.
- Possess endorsements for Passenger (P) and School Bus (S), or as required.
- Pass a medical examination.
