Clinical Sample Accessioner
Reports to: Lab Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Full time, first shift, Monday-Friday
Job Summary
The Clinical Sample Accessioner supports the clinical lab staff with sample collection, intake and accessioning. This will entail following all relevant SOPs for safe collection and processing of samples as well as entering newly received sample orders and information into the EMR/LIS. This job requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent organization skills, creativity and the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Ensure the daily collection of all scheduled samples are completed.
- Verifies aspects of all samples meet acceptability criteria for sample testing.
- Resolve and document incomplete or unacceptable specimens.
- Data entry into the EMR/LIS.
- Ensure all data entry is entered accurately and completely before sending samples to the lab.
- Ensure samples are sent to the lab in a timely manner.
- Support the administrative functions of the location as needed.
- Work closely with the laboratory to provide consistent and ongoing support to the client.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Regular and consistent attendance is expected
Education/ Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Strong data entry skills required
- Medical office, terminology and EMR/LIS experience preferred
- Able to prioritize and drive results with a high emphasis on quality and turnaround time
- Able to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually. Ability to stand, walk and reach frequently.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
- Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine. Distance vision required to drive an automobile, if driving is a requirement of the job.
- Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
- Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers.
