The Litigation Assistant is primarily responsible for providing administrative support on matters assigned. As legal assistant, you may be assigned to work on matters handled in any of the states and jurisdictions the firm practices in. The firm may assign work in different practice areas including but not limited to: Litigation, Non-Judicial, Foreclosure, Judicial, Foreclosure, Replevin & Collection Matters, Bankruptcy, Mediation, Eviction, Title Curative, and Surplus Funds.
Tasks assigned to legal assistants include but are not limited to:
- Compile, prepare and summarize relevant information and materials to be used by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of complaints, motions, briefs, pretrial memorandums, and other legal documents
- Maintain and update active case files in the firm’s database
- Perform legal and operational research as part of case prep and suit filing
- Interact with clients as directed to gather appropriate support documentation
- Assist attorneys with all aspects of a case file management, including research, document production, accuracy reviews, and cost tracking
- Preparation of documents for attorney review including but not limited to complaints, motions, proposed orders, proofs of service, and other documents as assigned.
- Completing service of documents as required by local rules.
- Filing documents with various courts throughout the various states/ jurisdictions
- Calendaring deadlines and hearing dates
- Preparing client status reports
- Responding to client inquiries
- Internal and client system updates
- Collaborate with operational and IT staff on enhancements to database management with a goal to increase legal production capabilities and efficiency
- Listen to and communicate with team members both verbally and in written form to understand team goals, then help execute on the plan to realize those goals
- Multitasking, prioritizing, and working efficiently from one task to the next
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior Law firm experience
- Knowledge of both e-filing and conventional filing in Oregon and WA
- General understanding of the litigation process
- Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook experience
- Detail oriented with attention to accuracy
- Competent in organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization, while maintaining confidentiality
- Strong work ethic with the ability to balance and prioritize high volume workload
Requirements:
- Candidates must reside in California, Nevada or Oregon.
- At least 5 to 7 years of legal assistant experience, of which 2 years are creditor rights or real property related, that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in this job profile.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
- Advanced knowledge of legal research principles, methods, techniques, and resources.
- Track record of successfully leading teams and overseeing projects.
