The Obsidian Theatre Festival, produced by GhostLight Creative Productions, Incorporated and Nicely Theatre Group, is CALLING for a Production Coordinator for its fifth season.
ABOUT:
The Obsidian Theatre Festival centers Black stories, through an invigorating celebration of new work by emerging Black voices. Produced by Detroiters in the city of Detroit, the Obsidian Theatre Festival illuminates the rich diversity of experiences relevant to the African diaspora.

LOCATION: Detroit, MI
SEEKING: A DIRECTOR OF GUEST SERVICES with experience in Theatre and Musical Theatre. BIPOC artists are strongly encouraged to submit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The DIRECTOR OF GUEST SERVICES will report to the Associate Artistic Director/ General Manager & the Associate General Manager
- Attend OTF Staff Retreat in January 2025 TBD
- Attend weekly virtual Departmental Breakout Meetings TBD
- Attend and lead Front of House Orientation in June TBD
- Attend any additional meetings, as needed
- Interpersonal Skills

- Act as the first point of contact for guests.
- Diffuse conflict or tense situations with guests.
- Listen to guests if they have any concerns.

- Take in house training for OTF Ticket Sales and Policies
- Monitor all ticket sales
- Book tickets via in person or on the phone quickly and accurately. Both for single and group sales bookings.
- Run box office ticket reports.
- Report Ticket Sales and progression to the Executive Staff
- Help establish high customer service.
- Provide guests with further assistance as needed.
- Provide assistance for resolving guest issues.
- Take notation of any accessible seating requests and needs
- Work with Front of House Staff
- Train and supervise Front of House Staff and Swag Sale Reps
- Supervise ticket check in process for all performances
- Guide guests to seats and other necessary locations in the theatre
- Coordinate and communicate with FOH about any guest concerns
- Be cognizant of accessible seating and make notations of any needed seating during the reservation process
- Have the ability to multi-task
- Pick up theatre house in between shows with FOH Staff
- Set up lobby as needed
- Help with closing down of theatre if needed
- Support the Associate General Manager in supervising the Hospitality Coordinator and the OTF Lounge.
- The Hospitality Coordinator will oversee the outside OTF Lounge where guests can relax and purchase food and beverages from sourced food trucks.
- Begin planning out the OTF Lounge events and schedule.
- Support finding available food truck vendors for the OTF Lounge.
- Being a representative of OTF to the public
- Being a source of information and knowledge to guests on various matters such as The Festival, merchandise, and the theatre.
- Accommodating general and unique requests.

- Strong organizational skills.
- Set up, supervise, and close merchandise stand.
- Oversee sales and payment for OTF Swag merchandise.
- Keep track of inventory.
- Run sales reports.
- Report Sales to Executive Staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working on a variety of projects such as musicals, straight plays, cabarets and new work is preferred
- Excellent Customer Service Skills
- Basic mathematical skills
- Ability to problem solve and think on your feet
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time
- Strong organizational, leadership, time management, administrative and mentoring skills
- Outstanding judgment and ability to prioritize varying tasks efficiently and safely
- Ability to work under pressure while multitasking
- Able to coordinate timely responses between internal departments
- Must be able to work extended hours, nights and weekends
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- High level of computer proficiency with knowledge of Google Suite

SCHEDULE:
The DIRECTOR OF GUEST SERVICES position’s estimated workload averages 10-15 hours per week prior to production weeks, with an increase to 40 hours during production week. Looking for someone to start March 1, 2025.
Will be required to be in person in June. Office will be located in Downtown Detroit.
