Director Pricing & Promotion – Giant Food
The Director of Pricing & Promotion is a strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing Giant Food’s pricing strategy to support profitable growth across all merchandising categories. This role leverages deep analytical expertise, financial acumen, and industry knowledge to inform pricing, shelf edge messaging, promotion, and margin management. Partnering across merchandising, finance, and operations, the Director ensures that pricing decisions align with business goals, competitive dynamics, and customer expectations. This role also leads the Cost & Deals team and a team of Pricing Analysts, instilling analytical rigor and fostering continuous improvement.
Primary Duties:
- Develop and lead enterprise-wide pricing strategies, grounded in data, competitive insights, and market trends, to drive sales, margin, and competitive positioning.
- Collaborate with Merchandising, Brand Finance, and the Shared services teams to ensure pricing plans are aligned, measurable, and financially sound.
- Establish and monitor competitive price index targets and departmental guardrails, ensuring execution aligns with customer value and margin goals.
- Translate business and financial objectives into actionable pricing and promotional planning at the category and sub-category level.
- Guide analysts in scenario planning, financial modeling and competitive benchmarking to support strategic and tactical pricing decisions.
- Responsible for timely and accurate shelf edge messaging as owner of the vendor relationship
- Ensure the integrity and availability of key pricing data including costs, promotions, vendor funding, and competitive intelligence.
- Manage Cost & Deal’s accurate processing of merchandising deals and vendor cost changes
- Translate complex data into clear, compelling presentations and documentation tailored to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Leverage technology and pricing systems to enhance team capabilities and improve pricing execution efficiency.
- Serve as a mentor and thought leader on pricing strategy, fostering innovation and talent development within the team.
Minimum requirements:
- Curious, entrepreneurial, self-starter, with strong problem-solving skills, ability to work cross-functionally while managing competing deadlines and priorities.
- Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or related field.
- 10 years combined experience in analytics, data science, consulting, pricing, finance, and/or similar experience.
- Background in retail, pricing or revenue management a plus, but not necessary.
- Experience developing executive level presentations and comfortable presenting to an executive audience.
- Experience working with large data sets and deriving actionable insights and recommendations, including those that have a financial impact.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of SQL, Python, R or demonstrated interest in learning.
