JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Middle School Counselor/School Social Worker
School counselors work as a team to coordinate and deliver multi-tiered systems of social emotional and mental health supports and interventions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Social Work, School Psychology, School Counseling, or related field
LICSW/LCSW, LMHC or related clinical licensure preferred
School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor/School Counselor DESE license
Experience working with middle school students on social, emotional, mental and behavioral health issues
Experience working in a therapeutic and/or school setting
Experience delivering special education services
REPORTS TO: Director of SEL and Counseling, School Principal and Special Education Coordinator
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide individual and group counseling with identified general education and special education students
Deliver schoolwide counseling initiatives and curriculum that support student social emotional learning
Support administration of mental health and social emotional learning screeners
Consultation with staff including coaching and professional development on social/emotional/behavioral needs and interventions with students
Provide family/caregiver outreach and support
Provide clinical crisis intervention, including assessment and facilitation of hospitalizations when necessary
Participation in student IEP/Team Meetings
Case management responsibilities with collateral contacts and partnering community and state agencies
Other duties as assigned by the SEL Director, School Principal, and Special Education Coordinator
Additional Skills:
Experience with data collection and reporting
Ability to support improved academic achievement for targeted students

Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.
